Ancient Artifacts

So far, the plan to digitize my elementary school play does not appear to have been successful.

I'm living in a fantasy world!

Let's pretend my camera is just misplaced. Nobody would have stolen it out of my bag, right? It'll just turn up in my apt. somewhere, right? And can we pretend that I didn't fall for this Futurama joke, too? Because no theoretical person who downloaded the show could possibly make this mistake?

Great-great great-great

I hope you have someone in your family who does Genealogy like my Aunt Gina. Every once in a while they send you little pieces of gold, like how one of my ancestors just walked away from my family and farm one day and never came back. (And, we suspect, we were neither the first nor the last such family of his.) Or the knowledge that my struggle with being American and Canadian echoes the 5 Dilts brothers' families' choices during the American Revolution. (My ancestor went with United Empire Loyalism.) Or these photos of my great-great-great-great grandparents, Daniel and Mary McGahan Dimond. Oh, for that beard.....

[Edit: oh, and I'm also eligible to be a Son of the American Revolution, she says. I guess I took _both_ sides in that one.]

Tl;Dr Tarot

Gave myself a Tarot reading with the question: "What should I tell my supervisor tomorrow?" Anybody got any idea what this means?  I'm a knight errant? okay. Hanging over me: struggle. The base of the matter: Struggle. No sh*t. I'll just skip to the end, let's see.... The Final Outcome: "a time of dissatisfaction, boredom and depression within a relationship. There is a feeling of being let down or cheated, although the one who does the cheating is usually oneself because of one's unreal expectations". Hmmm... I don't think I'll lead with that at the meeting, no.

Went to Pud's for pizza! Always delightful, as I hope you know. Too good to wait to take pictures of.

Very Special Places

Campus was dead today - I couldn't find anyone in our building and all the doors were locked. Maybe because people didn't realize they probably weren't going to get shot for being there.  Fortunately, I finally got a key to that door down there a couple of days ago. Unfortunately, I immediately put it in a Very Special Place. As usual, the place was so special that I have no idea where it is.

EDIT: I know now why the building was locked.  It is Sunday. In my mind it was also Sunday yesterday. Hence the Father's Day call. Um.

Kashmiri Chai

I should do a Father's day post like Paula did, I guess, but he's not here, so I called him instead. Also, I guess I'm enough of a regular that an accidentally-milky Kashmiri Chai got redirected my way absolutely free.  Or my neckbeard has mysterious powers. I have not yet ruled out either explanation.

Hiding from Hiding

After work today I went to one of my forest hiding spots to finish off Cloud Atlas. So did a badger.

Introducing Women to Girls

Everybody needs mental health breaks, right? And friends? And all-dressed Ruffles?

The Bandit

Got introduced to The Bandit a few months back by an archivist and Diesel Sweeties fan at a cafe. Think s/he's done a fine job with this one.  Oh, and I took this on Monday, but I didn't take any pictures of Pud keeping me sane on Tuesday, so this will have to do.

Okay then

Great PR, tar sands! "Don't worry: we just got lucky. Twice! Next time we'll F*ck up your river much worse."

Great idea, mysterious billboard! From now on I'll spy on my neighbours as much as I can. Maybe I'll finally discover the story behind that beater full of garbage that's always parked there.

Carved in Stone

I'm glad Trev likes Edmonton better now, since one of his pieces looks like it'll be here for a while. It's etched in granite on a bench on Alberta Avenue.  His name is, too:
It's at the SE corner of 118 Ave and 89 street if you'd like to see it in person. Everyone seems to have a good reason to go there about once a year. Well, two good reasons, now.

One Night Only?

This post actually comes on a day between Friday and Saturday, created by M's presence in Edmonton for the night, Elizabeth's boundless hospitality, and good company.

When I first saw this lamp on the bench of giving, I was of two minds about it. Then both minds insisted that I take it.

Um, no. Well, maybe. Well, okay, fine, how could I not try it?

This is a picture of K2 that I stole from the web. It's a synthetic cannabinoid that's still legal in Canada. It's supposed to more or less simulate the experience of smoking weed, which means it probably makes you hungry, goofy and lazy, from what I hear. It doesn't sound much like a menace to society, unless every single news story you mention it in is actually about that TOTALLY DIFFERENT IN EVERY WAY drug that that guy was on when he ate somebody's face. Reefer Madness strikes again.

If you get your car stuck on a tree stump, make sure it's downtown. Then instead of hiring a tow truck, you can just get six bystanders to pick the car up for you. Also, trying to push the car, rock the car, or getting two people to sit on the hood above the front wheel while you push the car are not effective.

A Visitor

This is a picture of me completely failing to remember to take a picture of Mars while she was here.  I kept planning on it. I'd take a picture at the delicious dinner party, or here at Remedy on one of the days she was babysitting me while I worked on my thesis.  At least we got to hang out. That's the important thing, right?

Presumably so that he could troll this magazine with this preposterous photo/caption combo.
