btw, this barley wine is un-drinkably terrible

Mom's visit wasn't all spent looking at things, though.  We managed to squeeze in some Dilts family staples, namely, recycling and fancy beer.

barleywine is definitely an acquired taste. Most of them are very potent brews. Try some Russian Imperial Stout next :-)
