I was worried, at first: Has anyone outside my family known me for 5 continuous years or more? Then I remembered that my non-grad-school friends from back home count as grownups now.

Why do they have to be outside your family?
It's specified just out of frame to the right. Pretty standard for references, though, right?
Just wait until they ask every place you've lived in the past 10 years.
