When Canadians do Sierra Leone-ish things like selling used clothes on a big makeshift table, Sullay is always there to watch and laugh. We were pretty successful, but there were a few stubborn items that refused to be sold.
I don't know which is more telling about the professionalism of my [former] landlord, the fact that this "professional" insulation job looks about as shabby and ineffective as my own haphazard attempts to keep my room from freezing over, or the fact that she didn't tell me it was going to be done.
Because the caretaker didn't want to come from the 'burbs to open the boiler room, the plumber had no choice but to put a temporary patch on the pipe and leave the giant hole in the ceiling. A week later we called the caretaker to see if she understood that THERE WAS A GIANT HOLE IN THE CEILING. There was in fact more hole than ceiling. "Well," she said "I guess that's the next tenant's problem."
We were waiting in line for most of Cat Power's set, and she's the one we paid $50 to see, and we couldn't get in to the beer zone because it closed at 4pm or something, but at least I can say I've been to folk fest.
Sullay has this impression that some buses are male and some buses are female, and as near as I can tell it's based on how new they are. I didn't realize that I had internalized it until I saw this bus and my jaw dropped.
Fourah Baying food involves slipping it into your pocket at the end of a party and walking out with it. Pulling it out and eating it on the street is optional.
I finally made it to this Francophone campus I keep hearing about. It looked pretty nice. It was closed, though, and I really was just passing through it on the way to an Irish pub to meet Ontarian friends.
I wanted this place even though it was a bit expensive, even though my room was tiny and had only three walls, because the house was like a dream come true. How come it had to turn into a f*cking nightmare?
These arrows would point at the ends of the three lines, but even from the 6th floor of CAB, I couldn't get more than 2/3rds of each of the meat lines in frame.
How could you not wonder what it's like inside a place called the Russian Tea Room? The tea wasn't that good, and I didn't try the psychic readers, but I like the atmosphere.
I like to imagine that this guy just parked her brand-new Mercedes here one day and decided to wait until conditions in Edmonton were good enough for surfing. I guess she's been waiting a while.
Finally went to the Fringe Festival today, to see Back to Methuselah. Even if I hadn't gone to a show, though, they have lots of buskers, and stalls like this one that are selling.... uh..... ?
