The dictionary is really helpful when you look up "shiokara", though. It says "you are right to wish you were not eating this"

This is exactly what my experience eating in Japan was like. Somebody tells you the Japanese name for what you're eating, but you don't recognize it so you look it up in your dictionary, and your dictionary gives you an English name you don't recognize anyway.
