For part 2 (3?) of my Very Mary Easter, she had me and her boss over for asparagus, ceaser salad with homemade dressing, mashed potatoes, mushrooms, knitting, and this leg of lamb.

Holy Week Indeed

Twice in three days I'm in church! There were way more songs at the vigil, though. To keep it interesting, every reading and psalm seemed to be performed by someone who was either a non-native speaker of English or totally gay. Or both. Hard to be sure. Great times.

Democracy Inaction

The original plan was to head downtown to vote, but Mary texted to remind me to observe day-beer day. I can vote tomorrow, right?

Borscht Night

michelle is over for the week! We made borscht and brie-and-pear sandwiches for a few good friends. Mary brought wine and beet-graters. Pud brought veggie stock and his Baba's borscht recipe, and took these pictures.

Birthday girl

At the Empress for Mary's birthday, she and Octavian were goaded into having a have-you-seen-this-movie?-off. It was unreal - everything from Antonioni to the Hanna Montana movie came out, and everyone was surprised at how much Mary and Otto knew, including each other.

Rockin' with the Hoc

I can't believe it's taken me this long to get together with Mary after Christmas. She makes a fine tofu curry, has a solid jazz collection and, um, let me watch season 1 of, ah, Cougar Town. As a token of my appreciation, I payed forward this bit of wisdom from Andrew: Community is actually a good show.

Kyle, Bekka and Olivia hosted a delicious Thanksgiving party! The trick to taking candid photos is to keep taking them until people forget that you're taking pictures. Until _most_ people forget, anyway.

Honestly, Edmonton, I'm disappointed. The teenaged girls screaming for the stars of twilight looked like they only numbered in the hundreds, and everybody else there looked kind of bored.

Local scene

Mary took us to two free media-only previews of Fringe plays tonight.  She's somehow more tapped in to the Edmonton arts community than we are, despite my being here about 46 times as long.  We try to make up for it with chammomile tea and free 90's sewing magazines.
