Why thank you. I think I'll do that.

Libraries Rock!

This is a picture of how the EPL has the closing theme from Monty Python's Flying Circus as their closing theme.

Buy a Karyn Ellis CD RIGHT NOW

Sometimes I think I could get enough exercise just by going to outrageously beautiful concerts and getting extremely woo-woo excited.

Full Disclosure

If you get invited to a friend's birthday feast the day after you meet them, you might find it easier, for some reason, to tell them that you tend to get depressed and you just might drink and surf the internet too much, but not that you, ah, don't really, um, eat, you know, meat, I mean, usually.... Anyway, it was delicious. And I got leftovers!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Kyle, Bekka and Olivia hosted a delicious Thanksgiving party! The trick to taking candid photos is to keep taking them until people forget that you're taking pictures. Until _most_ people forget, anyway.

Free Bathtub

I guess this means I'll have no squatters in my neighbourhood after all.

Movember continues

It's a'spossed to keep me warm, the moustache, but it doesn't when there's ice in it.

You read that correctly

Olivia and I went to Transcend, and were glad we did: Squash and Aprikat soup!!

I'm never erasing this whiteboard.

Hell yes the right stuff

My feelings about the Monarchy are mixed. My feelings about someone from Waterloo getting props are not.

Back to Canada

The trip was brief, but good. On the way back, I took pictures of a silly thing about America:
And some beautiful things about Canada:

The 'burbs

We were in Portland to visit my dad, who gave me some much-needed moral support. It turns out my parents will be my parents even if I don't get a PhD, and that Dad was told more than once that he didn't have what it takes.

Anyway, Dad seems to have what it takes after all. He doesn't live in downtown Portland. He lives here:
This is the view from his basement balcony to his main-floor balcony:
Here's his local bar:
and here's everything Jewish:

How dare you, Portland

Andrew, Erin, Brendan and I went down to Portland, where he showed us the bridges:
...and several of the audacious things that Portland has to offer. Here's the Philip K Dick SECTION of the local book store:
Here's the theatre where we saw Dan Savage's very special film festival
Here's the warehouse district where the giant brew-pub beerhall was:
Here are their beers. Their strong, hoppy, brewed-in-house beers.

Imperfect Plans

We camped in Jasper overnight. It was -11C at the lowest. The tent had frost on it in the morning. So did the sleeping bags. We had an outstanding time.

implausible

Kyle and I happened to stop for gas in Vavenby, where they custom-made a bathroom sign for Bekka's collection.

Relative Ages

The Hoc and I checked out the Antique Mall, on Pud's suggestion. You should definitely go. They had fancy-pants player-piano rolls:
And a fair amount of stuff that may make you wonder what they mean, exactly, by 'antique':

Exploring the digs

The slopes of the river valley are pretty good at hiding community gardens.

Home Cookin'

I wasn't sure Kyle and Bekka could get a decent Mexican meal together, when your Edmonton grocery store's Mexican foods section looks about like this:But they did a hell of a lot better than decent, let me tell you.

Saturday, November 6, 2010

Getting an apartment in the valley doesn't seem like a half-bad idea, some times.

yeep!

Either the drugs have started working or it's a real goddamn beautiful day out here.

Current Moustatus: Elwes

Hey guess what! November comes with a good excuse to grow a moustache now! Not that moustaches need excuses. Anyway, click here to fight prostate cancer!

Often I did too!

I'm so glad this woman got immortalized this way. She's always been part of the LRT experience for me.
