Mud and Dreams expands

Last time I was here, this was a street.

DANGER DUE TO: Hopscotch

Don't listen to the giraffe. It's a trap. Also: don't wait even a few days after moving to get health insurance.  Even children's games can lead to expensive ambulance rides.

Providence

Work is sending me to Providence for a couple of weeks pretty soon, so I thought I'd start blogging again. Jess took me and Pancake to the city today to  watch them light the canals on fire.

Meanders

With Dad out of town, I had a little extra time to explore his neighbourhood. So of course I got lost. Until I found Martha street. Martha street is the way home.

Staples

Went to Voodoo doughnuts. In particular, went to see the permanent line up around the block at Voodoo doughnuts:
Then went to Powell's, obviously. The lineups there were much shorter.

That didn't take long

Saw my first non-bridge shot from the Portlandia credits the first time I went into town. Lisa Lampanelli was playing there that night. I decided to pass. But my god, I had sure better get to see this:

Change of scenery

I'm leaving Edmonton for 6 weeks, to see if I can work better somewhere else. I think I probably can, since the somewhere else looks like this:

The Beautiful Lady Faces

Got invited to a tasty BBQ for Labour Daybour! Chez one Mr. Wong, owner of the bistro! The Beautiful Lady Faces and I had some time to kill with photos while we waited for the bistro to close.

More Farewells

The month of farewells continues with Curtis - shown here forging a knife blade on his actual anvil - and Heather's Dance-us-Down-Under party. So much good dancing.

SPACE NAZIS

... Secret Moon Nazis, to be exact. Iron Sky was the kind of movie that could only be created by the internet. No, wait, the kind of movie that could only be done right by the internet.

PROOF

I need a picture of the hitching posts for Mennonite horse-and-buggys at Waterloo grocery stores, just to prove to myself that they really existed when I've been gone for too long. Just like I needed this  picture of a functioning (or at least moving) oil derrick in the McDonald's parking lot.

MONSOON!

Oh! The next thing on my things-to-do-in-Edmonton-before-you-leave list turned out to be "see green clouds"! We saw green clouds, then it hailed king cobb steelie-sized golf balls, then the road flooded, then the sidewalk flooded, then the rain switched to a drizzle, then it was only an hour after we first saw the clouds.

Well Hello.

I'm used to seeing strange things in dumpsters, but not a giant book of The Beautiful Lady Faces.

Then Into the Great Great Lakes

If I ever do move back East from here, I hope a fantastically unlikely set of circumstances lets me do it by York Boat.

Olivia-Chris

So, I was in Warman for a wedding! An Olivia-Chris wedding! But I brought a camera I'm not used to, so I only have blurry pictures of the beautiful ceremony:
But there was Heidi! While the wedding party was getting pictures done, she showed me how to do Saskatoon right:
Then it was back to the reception, with lovely speeches and wicked-fun square dancing, and smiles and (new) family and love and stuff.
Oh, and this cake that is a cake. THIS IS A CAKE! I almost picked up one of the controllers before I realized.
And after the unable-to-resist-being-helpful Cox family took down the beautiful garden-party-themed reception hall, we sent the couple off to their secret honeymoon with ample banging on the trunk.

The Skatch!

Back to Saskatchewan! I forgot to roll down the windows and smell the air because I was too excited to get to WARMAN!, the source of the Chris:
(Also, do you capitalize after a... pauseobang? Commabang? Questions within questions.)

Sasuga Garneau

I don't visit the Garneau alleys much these days, but it's nice to know they're keeping up the trend.

I couldn't help but see these as lost balloon animals.

Hiding from Hiding

After work today I went to one of my forest hiding spots to finish off Cloud Atlas. So did a badger.
